Different stories in that Milesian style*

I write 10-minute scripts for contests.  I think it's kind of fun.  There are generally some parameters in subject or style that have to be met.  I don't put a huge effort into them.  Not more than a week.

The 10-minute play I've been working on for the last week has to be on the subject "Gun Control."

I started reading about the history of gun control and came across a wonderful article about The Black Panthers.  On May 2, 1967, about thirty members of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense, took their guns and went to the state capitol building of California.  Bobby Seale, one of the leaders of the Black Panthers, gave a speech on the capitol steps and the Panthers went inside.

The Patron Saint of modern Conservatism, Ronald Reagan was Governor at the time.  The Republicans in the state house were trying to pass a gun control measure.  The Black Panthers objected.  Needless to say, gun control passed with even more votes then had been anticipated.

Gave me a new perspective on a topic I thought was fairly simple.  This is one of the reasons I love being a writer.

I spend my days learning about the oddest things.

I also read about Red Shoes.

I wrote the script.  After about a week of research, the first draft (12 pages) took about an hour and a half to write yesterday afternoon.

Did the first re-write this morning.  I think it works.

One more look tomorrow and off it goes.
