PROMPT:  far off, in the woods, a sound is heard that will affect someone three days later

Caridad Svich, playwright, translator, songwriter, lyricist and editor

Charles, 68, with glasses sits at the table.  John, 60, and Fred, 59, sit with him.
CHARLES
(spooky)
There we were, deep in the woods.
FRED
Why?
CHARLES
That’s what we like to do.
FRED
Go deep into the woods?
CHARLES
Yes.
FRED
Okay.
CHARLES
We were deep in the woods...
FRED
Where?
CHARLES
Montana, Glacier National Park.
FRED
You were in a National Park?
CHARLES
Yea.
FRED
Show me on a map.
Charles takes out his smart phone and presses dome buttons.  After a moment he shows it to Fred.
FRED
You were camping at Lake McDonald?  That’s not deep in the woods.
CHARLES
Okay!  It wasn’t deep, deep in the woods, but it was deep in the woods.
FRED
You were a two minute drive from a convenience store.
CHARLES
How do you know that?!
FRED
They have a web cam.
CHARLES
Really?
FRED
They have ‘em all over the park.  Post a new shot every three or four minutes.
CHARLES
Your kidding?!  Then they got a shot of Bigfoot!  Sasquach!
FRED
(muttering)
Oh lord...
CHARLES
He was wandering around the lake last night.  I saw him!
FRED
Did you get a picture with your smart phone?
CHARLES
It was dark.  I was afraid the flash would spook him!
FRED
You were afraid of scaring Bigfoot?
CHARLES
Yes!
FRED
Bigfoot...
CHARLES
Who knows what he might do if I frightened him?  He could go on a rampage!
FRED
I know you don’t have gun, but it’s Montana.  Everyone else has a gun.  Going to be a very short rampage.  He’d open one picnic basket and be a bullet ridden corpse.  It ain’t Jellystone Park.
CHARLES
The bears up there aren’t Yogi and BooBoo.
FRED
True enough.
Silence.
FRED
Anything else to tell me about Bigfoot?  After you spotted him did he just dolly off into the woods.
CHARLES
Pretty much.
FRED
You look for prints the next morning.
CHARLES
To many campers wandering to and from the convenience store.
Fred nods.
CHARLES
They have a guy outside the convenience store dressed in a Bigfoot costume.  You can take your picture with him for ten bucks.
Fred nods.
CHARLES
I took one with him.
Fred nods.
End of play.
