PROMPT: Take a walk downtown, talk to at least three strangers. Use them as inspiration for a piece.

Bob, 59, Anglo-American, with just a few items, steps up to the register in the large grocery store. The checker, Rick, 22, is a short African-American man with long dreadlocks. Rick starts checking.
RICK
Good evening.
BOB
Good evening.
(looking at the young man with a smile)
How are you doing this evening?
RICK
(smooth)
Chillin’ like a villain.
BOB
What?!
RICK
Chillin’ like a villain.
BOB
I’ve been coming to this store nearly everyday for twenty years. For the past four years, you’ve been a checker here day in and day out. You’re polite, friendly, and I assume, since you’ve been working here so long, reliable.
RICK
I guess so.
BOB
You’re no villain. You’re a good man. Hard working, dedicated. A proud man doing his best to take care of what’s important.
Silence.
RICK
I do.
BOB
You’re no villain.
Silence.
RICK
Thanks.
BOB
Keep up the good work. See ya tomorrow.
Bob picks up his groceries.
End of play.
