The New Play continued:
Well, you knew that sooner or later I'd end up back at Riot Grrrls. Seems to be my current obsession.
I heard an NPR interview with Kathleen Hanna, lead singer for Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, and now The Julie Ruin. I am not a huge punk fan, but there is something about the attitude of these women that I love. And surprisingly, I liked the two songs from the new The Julie Ruin album that I heard. I bought Ha Ha Ha."
I watched another longer interview with Kathleen Hanna on YouTube. Again, I just loved her attitude.
All this stuff lead to some new title possibilities: Instant Macho Gun Revolution, Bus Stop Epiphany, Gross Bathrooms, The Huge Dick Aesthetic. The first and the last are my favorites.
I also got a lot of quotes from the interviews and some stuff from Riot Grrrl websites.
Now, I've started looking at Greek mythology (a long time obsession.) I read about Talos, the giant copper automaton that guarded Cyprus. I read about Hephaestus, the crippled god who created all the magic stuff for the Olympic Gods. I read about Galatea and Pygmalion.
Then I found a note about ancient Greek Satyr plays. I've read a lot about the ancient history of the theatre in Greece, but I don't recall reading about Satyr Plays. They were tragedies told with comic styling's. Often the fourth play in a series with three actual tragedies proceeding. Why have I never heard of these before. This is what I write!... I think. There are only a couple of complete examples left. I intend to read one.
And the newest member of the cast? A mechanical parrot that talks like a pirate... maybe. His name will be either Rupert or Persephone.
And then there's Nicki Minaj, Saartjie "Sarah" Baartman, and Baudelaire.
