Prompt:
The dogs are barking because...-Kristen Gandrow, dramaturg/arts administrator

Response:

Dogs barking.
ROY, 35, sits by the open window, in his wheelchair, a loaded gun in his hands
SUSAN, 39, in an apron, rushes in carrying a large butcher knife ready for action.  She sees Roy and lowers the knife.

SUSAN
What the hell are you doin’?

ROY
That damned dog came back.

SUSAN
So you shot it!?

ROY
I missed.

SUSAN
That’s somebody’s pet!

ROY
Well, somebody ought to keep that mongrel in there yard.

SUSAN
Roy, you can’t just shot at people’s animals.

ROY
But he brought a friend with him this time.  There’ll be a whole pack of ‘em before you know it!

SUSAN
Then call the dog catcher.

ROY
Government ain’t gonna do nothin’ about some stray dogs.

SUSAN
Have you called ‘em?

ROY
No.

SUSAN
Then you don’t know what they’re gonna do, do ya?

ROY
No.

SUSAN
Now, don’t be shootin’ at dogs out of the window.

ROY
If they come on my property...

Roy raises his gun and points it out the window.
Susan rolls her eyes, shakes her head and goes back into the kitchen.
Roy takes up his vigil.
Curtain.
